These paintings reflect our intimate connection with the elements that support life on our wonderful planet. Gaia, the personification of the Earth and primal Mother Earth goddess, calls for some help right now to regenerate.

Earth, water, fire, air and space can be experienced inwardly - as in the density and hardness of our bones, the watery element of saliva, blood and other liquids, the fire of bodily heat, our flowing breath of life. Also in the space of our awareness as in meditation.

They can also be experienced externally as land, rock, trees and plants, oceans and rivers, wind, sunshine, fire and skies. So these paintings are based on my felt sense of the elements in the various places that I’ve visited. A playful response to the beauty, colour, light and spaces that I love.

Just to breath and relax in the changing light and varied conditions, in tame or wild places, is extraordinary and enriching.

But these elements need to be in balance, and with climate change they are getting more and more out of balance.

So the making of these paintings can be seen as a prayer for our planet. A powerful wish that we all help the planet to return to a new eco harmony and healing for all sentient beings.
